A Christchurch Emergency Department patient's death after leaving, is still under review - three years later

A Christchurch Emergency Department patient's death after leaving, is still under review - three years later

The patient died in October 2022, a day after quitting the busier-than-usual ED.

At the time, Canterbury Te Whatu Ora Chief Medical Officer, Doctor Richard French, acknowledged wait times were longer than usual.

This week, Health NZ Canterbury group director of operations Hamish Brown says they're committed to ensuring the review is thorough and robust.

He says several improvements have been made to help prevent a recurrence of such events - including significant sepsis training and increasing staffing.
