Thomas Rhett has become a father for the fifth time

The 35-year-old country singer and his wife Lauren Akins - who already have daughters Willa, 10, Ada, eight, Lennon, six, and Lilie, four together - welcomed son Brave Elijah into the world last week and the Die a Happy Man hitmaker has been praised by his spouse for helping to "deliver" the tot.

Sharing a series of photos of their little boy, the couple wrote in a joint post on Instagram: "Welcome to the world Brave [blue and green heart emojis]

"Oh. my. goodness. Our hearts are just in a big ole puddle with this precious baby BOY .

"Brave Elijah Akins was born last week at almost 10 pounds and almost 2 weeks early-thank you Jesus this big boy didn't wait another 2 weeks to be born [heart eye emoji] (sic)"

Lauren then celebrated her husband for being her "biggest champion.

She continued: "Thomas Rhett was my biggest champion in labor delivery[white heart emoji]He helped deliver him ([crying emoji]), was the first one to see and *tearfully*, mixed with a bit of shock announce to us all in the room "It's a BOY"."

She then added: "We are so grateful God chose us to have YOU cutie pie.

"Your four sisters are smitten and we are completely over the moon in love with you big Brave boy."

Thomas admitted in September he and his wife may have finished having children once their fifth baby was born.

He joked to Taste of Country: "I mean, five has kind of always been our number, anything above five, we will have to get a Sprinter van."

And the country star revealed that he and Lauren had decided against finding out the sex of their baby this time around.

He said: "Due date is in March and we are going to wait until the day of to figure out what the gender is.

"It's terrifying for me, but there's not many surprises left in this world, and I feel that's one that you kinda get to be surprised with, if you choose to."

The couple - who met in elementary school and dated briefly as teenagers before reuniting in 2011 - announced their pregnany news in an Instagram video back in August.

Thomas updated his song Life Changes to reveal the happy news and sang in the clip: "Well, I was wrapping my head around being a dad. Big wrench got thrown in the plans that we thought we had. Now Lauren's showing - got one on the way.

" That's five under 10. Hey what can I say? Yeah, life changes. You wake up ain't nothing the same. Yeah, life changes."
