Four schools in Nelson Tasman will be closed for the first day of the term following severe rainfall

The region remains under a local state of emergency.

Civil Defence says Tapawera Area School, Riwaka School, Brooklyn School, and Tapawera Kindergarten won't be open tomorrow.

It suggests checking in directly with schools to see how they're affected.

School buses may also be affected by road closures.

State Highway Six has now reopened from Murchison to Nelson, but NEMA says travel only if it is essential.
