US world golf number one Scottie Scheffler is looking in ominous form at the halfway mark of The Open major at Royal Portrush

Scheffler leads by one from Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick, on 10-under-par.

But lurking five shots behind in a share of 12th is home favourite Rory McIlroy.

The Northern Irishman shot a 69 for two-under ... his 25th career round in the 60s at The Open.

McIlroy famously missed the cut last time the British major was held at the legendary Scottish course in 20-19.

Kiwis Ryan Fox and Daniel Hillier both missed the cut.
