Taylor Swift is said to want fiancé Travis Kelce to "take the lead" in organising their wedding

The singer and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis, both 35, announced their engagement on Tuesday (26.08.25) with a joint Instagram post showing photos of the proposal, with the pair, who have been dating since 2023, captioning the images: "Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married"

A source has now told the Daily Mirror about the plans behind their wedding: "It will just be close friends and family."

Another insider added: "Based on what (Taylor has) told me, she would want the whole thing to be traditional, too.

"She wants (Travis) to take the lead."

The couple's friends have said they were not surprised by the engagement announcement.

One source told the Daily Mail: "Travis literally always said she's the girl he's going to marry. (He has) been saying that for a long time, really since the beginning."

Travis proposed earlier this month at his home in Lee's Summit, Missouri, with Taylor's father Scott Swift, 71, and her mother Andrea Swift, 66, informed shortly afterwards.

Photos from the proposal showed the couple embracing in a garden filled with pink and white flowers, with Travis down on one knee.

Travis's father, Ed Kelce, 73, gave further details in an interview with News 5 Cleveland.

He said: "He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, 'Let's go out and have a glass of wine'... they got out there, and that's when he asked her, and it was beautiful.

"They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew. So, to see them together is great."

Ed added his son proposed almost two weeks before the news was made public.

He also shared the advice he had given the athlete ahead of his proposal, saying: "I told him repeatedly, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event... when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you."

Travis' mother, Donna Kelce, 72, has also publicly shown her support for the couple.

She marked the occasion of the engagement by updating her Facebook cover photo to side-by-side childhood pictures of Taylor and Travis.
