Prince Harry makes rare visit to London, on anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's death

Prince Harry returns to London — a rare trip home — and pays tribute to his late grandmother on the third anniversary of her death, but whether he'll meet with the king during his quick visit remains unclear.

Prince Harry has returned to London — a rare trip home — and paid tribute to his late grandmother on the third anniversary of her death.

However, whether he will have an audience with King Charles III during the four-day visit remains unclear.

Prince Harry, who is fifth in line to the British crown, relocated to California with his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, in 2020 after stepping back from royal duties.

Since then, returns to the United Kingdom have been scarce.

Prince Harry has seen King Charles III — his father — only once in-person since the 76-year-old monarch made his cancer diagnosis public in February 2024.

That encounter at Clarence House lasted no more than 45 minutes.

During another visit three months later, a meeting was not possible because the king was "too busy", according to Prince Harry's staff.

It means the pair haven't seen each other in more than 18 months.

Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, is now said to be largely estranged from the rest of the royal family.

It is understood the release of the 40-year-old's explosive autobiography, Spare, in 2023, was considered particularly damaging by the Firm.

In July, British media reported representatives from Buckingham Palace had met counterparts from Prince Harry's communications team at a London member's club.

The get-together fuelled speculation of a possible reconciliation. However, that's yet to materialise.

On Monday morning, local time, Prince Harry laid a wreath at Windsor, where the late queen is buried.

She died, aged 96, three years ago to the day.

The prince will attend multiple charity events in the coming days.

However, whether he will meet King Charles III during his time in the UK is not known.

The monarch is at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, where the royal family typically spends part of the British summer.

King Charles III is due to return to London next week to host US President Donald Trump for a three-day state visit at Windsor, starting on September 17.

There has also been speculation he may attend the funeral of Katharine, Duchess of Kent, on September 16.

The 92-year-old — who was married to the late Queen Elizabeth II's first cousin Edward — died at Kensington Palace last week.

Meanwhile, Prince William and Princess Catherine on Monday attended an event hosted by the Women's Institute, of which the late queen had been a passionate member.

"Three years ago my grandmother passed away, I know she was a big part of the WI and she used to talk about it a lot, so this is a huge honour for me," Prince William said.

"I can't quite believe it's three years already."
