    Heavy downpours and strong wind gusts are setting in for central and southern parts of the country


    A heavy rain warning's in place until tomorrow evening for the Tararua Range, with thunderstorms and flooding possible.

    The Tasman District will also be under a heavy rain warning from 8 this evening, and the Buller District from 9 tonight.

    A heavy rain watch takes effect for the Nelson Lakes District from 9 tonight.

    Strong wind watches are in place for Central Otago, Queenstown Lakes District, Dunedin, Clutha and Southland.

    Watches for Wellington, Wairarapa and the Canterbrury High Country apply from later tonight
