All prison workers need to get the jab

All prison workers need to get the jab

The Government has extended its covid vaccine mandate to cover all staff working in New Zealand's prisons.

New prisoners are already tested for covid on arrival, and on days five and 12.

They're also separated from those who have been in custody for more than 14 days to avoid spread.

Department of Corrections National Commissioner Rachel Leota says mandating vaccination for people who work in our prisons provides an additional layer of protection.

The mandate will also apply to psychologists and many contractors who service prisons.

The Order requires them to receive their first dose of by October 30 ... and both doses by December 1.
