Christchurch Hospital has been swamped with alcohol-related cases this weekend

Christchurch Hospital has been swamped with alcohol-related cases this weekend

The emergency department was run-off its feet, with 360 alcohol-fuelled arrivals in the 24 hours from midnight Friday to Saturday.

Some are blaming Crate Day, marked on the first Saturday of December, but others aren't so sure.

A Canterbury DHB spokesman says while staff were extremely busy - they always deal with a lot of alcohol-related cases on weekends.
