A dump of summer snow isn't expected to indicate what the next ski season will look like

Cantabrians woke up to a dusting of snow on the Mt Hutt ski field this morning.

MetService says it's not unheard of - but definitely a little unusual.

Mt Hutt general manager of operations James Urquhart says winter is still a long way off.

He says they only look at the forecast two weeks ahead because anything can happen.
