Emotional scenes in the High Court at Dunedin - as a teen was found guilty of manslaughter, for a fatal stabbing at the city's bus hub

16-year-old Enere Taana-McLaren died of a single stab wound last May.

A 14-year-old - with permanent name suppression - was on trial for his murder.

After deliberating for more than two days, the jury returned its unanimous verdict for the lesser charge.

Herald reporter Ben Tomsett was in court, and describes how the defendant reacted.

He says his eyes were red and close to teary - and gave a reticent smile to members of the jury as they left.

The teen will be sentenced in July.
