Beamish has become the first New Zealander to secure a victory on the track in 42 years and 20 editions of the outdoor world athletics championships.
He's won the 3000 metres steeplechase in a sprint finish, denying Morocco's Soufiane El Bakkali a fifth successive global title.
The 28-year-old has completed the feat in a time of eight minutes 33.88 seconds.
The country's six previous titles were in field events - one in discus and five in shot put.
Beamish has reflected on the feat in the context of a career.
The feat marked an extraordinary turnaround after Beamish fell with only a lap to go in his heat, getting stamped on the head in the process, before recovering to qualify.
He also won the world championship indoor title in the 1500 metres at Glasgow last year.
