Red kiwifruit could become the new go-to, as Zespri plans to lengthen its commercial selling season

Red kiwifruit could become the new go-to, as Zespri plans to lengthen its commercial selling season

Another new red variety of the fruit has been approved for commercialisation - to meet global demand.

Zespri doubled its RubyRed Kiwifruit offering this year, selling more than three million trays across markets including New Zealand, Asia and the US.

CEO Jason Te Brake says they'll start rollout of the new fruit with domestic growers.

He says licenses will be granted to growers next year, and it could be on shelves by 2028.
