    Te Pati Maori's launched a policy to abolish prisons by 2040


    The party's pledging to replace prisons with community-led solutions, and to close youth residences and military-style bootcamps.

    It would also establish an Independent Maori Justice Authority, saying we need to invest in healing, not punishment.

    The policy has sparked online criticism from National and Act MPs.
