New innovation hopes to bring an end to babies getting skin injuries in intensive care units

Babies admitted to hospital often need an intravenous drip, secured with adhesive tape.

However, removing the tape can cause injuries in up to 70 percent of them ... sparking the creation of the Pepi splint.

The device which has been successfully trialled on 38 babies at Wellington Hospital, protects skin from the tape.

Dr Deborah Harris led the study, and says after seeing the injuries in hospital they wanted to take action.

He says that was the driving force behind the device's creation.
