A car crash survivor is urging young people to take care on the roads this summer

A car crash survivor is urging young people to take care on the roads this summer

The annual road toll is on track to be the second-lowest since the 1950s at 269.

The Christmas road toll has just become one - with a person hit by a car in Napier on Saturday, dying in hospital.

But, on average, about 90 road deaths each year are in crashes where a young driver's judged to be at fault.

Survivor Soraya Newton is pleading with the young - to not drive under the influence.

She says mistakes can happen at any age.
