Fears changes to WorkSafe's approach - put workers at risk

Fears changes to WorkSafe's approach - put workers at risk

Workplace Relations Minister Brooke van Velden's instructed the regulator to move from enforcement to engagement, and focus on the risk of death and serious injury.

But NZCTU union President, Richard Wagstaff says it builds on recent undercutting of the health and safety regulator.

He says workers could be hurt.

He says there was always a focus on serious risks, but this is getting narrower with agency now stepping back from prosecution.
