The current period of higher inflation isn't expected to last long

The current period of higher inflation isn't expected to last long

New data, due out from Stats NZ this morning, is expected to show inflation has risen to between 2.6 and 2.9 percent in the year to June.

Some economists expect it to surpass three-percent in the year to September.

But ASB Senior Economist Mark Smith says inflation should start falling again, before the end of the year.

He says the price of food and other goods are increasing, but rents and building prices have been cooling.
