Police investigating the death of a man in Wellington's Northland - have made an arrest

A 23-year-old man has been charged with murder over death of Simon Bird, found after several days at his home on April 1.

Friends of the 65-year-old describe him as a gentleman and lovely man.

They hadn't heard from him for several days - leading to a welfare check.

Police say there are still unanswered questions, and they can't publicly say what relationship the 23-year-old had with Bird.

They're still appealing for information from the public.

The accused is appearing at the Wellington District Court today.
