Lucas Bravo "was never intending not to come back" to Emily in Paris

The 37-year-old actor - who plays Gabriel, Emily's love interest, in the hit Netflix series - previously suggested that he might quit the show, but creator Darren Star has now insisted that Lucas was always likely to return for the upcoming season

Asked if it was hard to get Lucas to return or whether it just a misunderstanding, Darren told Deadline: "I think the latter, just a misunderstanding. I think he was never intending not to come back."

Darren has also confirmed that Lucien Laviscount, who plays Alfie, is set to play a more prominent role in season five of the show.

The character only appeared in a handful of episodes in season four, but Alfie will appear more often during the upcoming season.

Darren shared: "Lucien is basically in every episode this season. He's terrific, and I'm really happy to see him back this year in a more significant way."

Meanwhile, Lucas previously hit out at the show's writers, admitting that he'd never been "so far away" from his on-screen character.

The actor - who stars on the show alongside the likes of Lucien, Lily Collins and Ashley Park - told IndieWire in 2024: "The 'sexy chef' was very much part of me in season one and we grew apart season after season because of the choices he makes and because of the direction they make him take. I've never been so far away from him."

Lucas observed that Gabriel was being "slowly turned into guacamole" and that the TV show had stopped being fun to film.

He explained: "In season one, there was a lot of me in him. But as they made him kind of unaware of his surroundings, of the dynamic, always victimising and always being completely lost in translation and oblivious to anything that is happening around him and being manipulated by everyone, it kind of became not fun for me to shoot or to see a character I love so much and brought me so much, being slowly turned into guacamole. I really grew apart from him."
