A man is due in court in Christchurch, charged with robbing a central city bank

Police were called to the inner-city branch after 10am yesterday, to reports a man has passed a note to a bank worker, demanding cash.

A spokesperson says while cash was initially handed over, it was retrieved quickly when the bank's security team held the man until police arrived.

The 23-year-old man is due in Court today on a charge of robbery.
