Te Pati Maori has selected former broadcaster Oriini Kaipara as its candidate in the Tamaki Makaurau by-election

Te Pati Maori has selected former broadcaster Oriini Kaipara as its candidate in the Tamaki Makaurau by-election

It was triggered by the death of Takutai Tarsh Kemp.

Kaipara says she has a deep connection to the city and wants to up-hold Takutai Tarsh Kemp's legacy.

Among her policy focuses are mana whenua first right of refusal for land, a drive for Maori housing solutions to end homelessness, and an expansion of kaupapa Maori education models.

The date of the election has not been announced.
