David Harbour addressed the "pain" and the "slip-ups" in his life in an interview before ex Lily Allen's explosive album that seemingly accuses him of having an affair

The Stranger Things actor was asked about his regrets in life and admitted that he would'n't be "an artist anymore" if he changed all of the mistakes in his life.

He told the November issue of Esquire Spain before the release of West End Girl in October: "That's such a hard question - the question of regret, or something. I would change either everything or nothing.

"You either accept your path completely and realise that even the pain and the slip-ups and the mistakes are all part of the journey, and that there's truth and growth, wisdom and deeper empathy and connection in all that.

He insisted: "It's kind of like a house of cards, the minute you try to change one thing you kind of have to change it all."

On West End Girl, fans believe Lily is alluding to her estranged spouse-who she split from in December-cheating on her with a woman she calls Madeline.

On Halloween (31.10.25), the Smile hitmaker even dressed up as Madeline.

Elsewhere in the interview, David spoke about how in "awe" he is of his Stranger Things co-star Winona Ryder, and how much "empathy" she gives, after it was claimed he has been leaning on her since his marriage broke down.

He said: "I think that people who have done that at a level where I believe them and fall in love with them in a fake reality, I just have such awe of it.

"She's such a deeply emotional human being that I could never be, I think she feels things in a way that I could never feel them."

He added: "She has a brain that... my brain couldn't stretch to that amount of empathy. She's just an extraordinary creature."

A source recently told The Sun: "She [Winona] has his back, and she'll be at his side next month when they start promoting the final episodes of their show. She is not a judgmental person.

"Just like she came to Johnny Depp's defence during his scandal, she'll be there for David because it's clear to her that he's getting a raw deal in all of this."

Despite the speculation, Lily has insisted West End Girl is not a "revenge album" aimed at David.

The 40-year-old singer tied the knot with David, 50, in 2020, but their breakup was confirmed in February after four years of marriage.

The recently released 14-track record - which is "a mixture of fact and fiction" - explores themes of cheating, gaslighting, open relationships and sex addiction.

Asked to clarify if it's a "revenge album" after the breakdown of her marriage while speaking with Interview magazine, she replied: "It isn't.

"I mean, I wrote this record in 10 days in December and I feel very differently about the whole situation now.

"We all go through breakups and it's always fucking brutal. But I don't think it's that often that you feel inclined to write about it while you're in it."

Lily continued: "That's what's fun about this record; it's viscerally like going through the motions. At the time [of recording it], I was really trying to process things and that's great in terms of the album, but I don't feel confused or angry now. I don't need revenge."

Reviewers hailed the album "vicious", but Allen is adamant: "It's not a cruel album. I don't feel like I'm being mean. It was just the feelings I was processing at the time."
