Areas already hit by last week's wild weather are in for another round

MetService's issued a fresh wave of heavy rain and strong wind warnings for much of the country.

Southland, Clutha and Kaikoura remain under a state of emergency - and boil-water notices continue for Greymouth and Clutha.

Up to 10,000 properties in Southland and Clutha could be without power for a week.

More than 20 flights have been cancelled at Wellington Airport, where a strong wind warning's in place.

A Heavy Snow warning's in force for Canterbury High Country, Queenstown Lakes and Central Otago.

MetService's Head of Weather News, Heather Keats says flurries down to 200 metres are possible in Otago.

She says there will be up to 15 centimetres of snow settling above 500 metres, and up to 30 centimetres above 800 metres.
