Gisborne Police are deploying the Eagle helicopter, and placing more officers on the road, to combat reckless driving over New Years

The aircraft gives them better vision across the area and rapid response capability, as people flock to celebrations such as Rhythm and Vines.

Their message is firm - dangerous driving won't be tolerated.

Commander Superintendent Jeanette Park says they're already aware of planned gatherings involving boy-racers.

She says there will be consequences for dangerous drivers, such as impounded vehicles, infringement notices, and charges.
