An Auckland developer has been fined more than 80-thousand dollars - for building unsafe apartments

An Auckland developer has been fined more than 80-thousand dollars - for building unsafe apartments

John Liong Kiat Wong pleaded guilty to four charges of breaching the Building Act and RMA in Auckland District Court.

It was found Wong had converted an Eden Terrace warehouse into an office and apartment building, without consent.

Two years ago - a concrete block fell from the building on to a neighbour's roof - narrowly missing a skylight.

Basic safety features, like smoke detectors and fire sprinklers, were also missing a warrant of fitness.
