Penrith Panthers coach Ivan Cleary hopes NRL expansion won't hinder the Warriors' success in New Zealand

A second Kiwi franchise is being considered for the upcoming 20-team competition down the track, with expressions of interest for new franchises to officially be received next month.

Cleary believes the gap between rugby union and league is closing here - and now is not the time to disrupt that progress.

Perth and Papua New Guinea are the favourites to earn the 18th and 19th franchises respectively, with a second Kiwi side likely to be the 20th... possibly early in the next decade.
