Andrew Garfield feels like he's "in the middle of" a "light midlife crisis"

The 41-year-old actor was still struggling with the loss of his mum Lynn from pancreatic cancer in 2019 when he was offered his role in new movie 'We Live in Time' and admitted that he instantly connected with the themes of the film because of his own experiences

He told Britain's HELLO! magazine: "I was going through my own personal journey with my own grief. I was entering a midlife crisis and was in the middle of taking a break from everything.

"So I was thinking about life and death, love and existence, and looking back and looking forward and wondering what we are doing here on this planet and how we make it as meaningful as possible.

"It was a light midlife crisis and it continues now - I'm right in the middle of it.

"But it's OK. I think we all have to go through midlife crisis. It's a positive experience of disassembling and reassembling.

"When I read this script, I thought, 'Oh this is some version of the inside of my own heart right now.'"

Despite his struggles, the 'Hacksaw Ridge' actor has found comfort in many areas of his life.

He said: "I feel as though when I've been in the heart of my grief, it's loved ones I've felt mentorship and care from.

"Not only that, I feel it from nature, art, literature, film and theatre and from other people's creativity.

"I feel as though it's someone reaching a hand across time and space and saying, 'Me too, you're not alone. This is universal.'

"That is some of the most beautiful stuff that human beings get to do for each other.

"For me, this process didn't feel like digging up old wounds, it felt very healing.

"It actually felt as though it helped me stay close to the truth of my grief, the truth of my longings, the truth of my joys.

"It was a beautiful, healing thing."
