    A man's been fined 50-thousand dollars for selling seaweed online, illegally


    Former commercial fisher Ryan Campbell McManaway's been sentenced in the Invercargill District Court on four charges under the fisheries act.

    In 2022, fishery officers spotted a post advertising seaweed fertiliser, and after searches found thousands of litres - and an industrial mincer with seaweed still attached.

    Fisheries says the illegal operation could have earned McManaway thousands of dollars.
