A man wielding a samurai sword, who was shot by Police during a terrifying home invasion in Wellington, allegedly demanded the homeowner give him the keys to his Porsche

A 54-year-old man is in hospital and due in the court today.

Police say the man was shot in the shoulder, bitten by a Police dog, and targeted by officers with a taser and pepper spray.

They allege he broke into a multi-million dollar home in Wadestown at lunchtime on Sunday, demanding the homeowner give him the keys to a sports car outside.

They say when the homeowner refused, the man started damaging the house and barricaded himself in a room once Police arrived, with the standoff lasting several hours.
