Savannah Guthrie's mother Nancy has been confirmed missing and foul play hasn't been ruled out

The Today Show host's 84-year-old mother has been missing since around 9:45pm on Saturday (31.02.26) in Arizona, and authorities have launched an extensive search after she was reported missing around noon the following day.

On Sunday (01.02.26), the Pima County Sheriff's Department revealed she had last been seen at her residence in the Catalina Foothills area.

In a briefing later in the day, Sheriff Chris Nanos said: "We hope we find her safe and sound, but we are very concerned."

He explained that foul play could not be ruled out due to "concerning evidence", but did not elaborate.

Nanos noted that the evidence was "enough of a concern to us that we called out a criminal investigation team as well", although the case is still being handled as a search and rescue operation.

He added: "I don't need to tell you, this is very concerning to us; we don't typically get the sheriff out on a scene like this but it is very concerning."

While this is "not standard" for a missing person case, the sheriff said: "We're pretty much throwing everything at this."

The search has included ground crews with headlamps, dog teams, the Sheriff's Department plane, and drones, while deputies also checked in with hospitals and medical transport teams.

While Nancy has no cognitive issues, she is considered a "vulnerable adult" due to her age and physical mobility.

Nanos added: "She has some physical ailments that limit her ability to move around."

Savannah is yet to publicly comment on her mother's disappearance.

Nancy often visited her daughter on the set of the Today Show in New York City, and the host always spoke fondly of her mother.

She previously said on the programme: "When I was in my 30s, I really wished to be married and to be a mom, and things just did not happen that fast for me.

"And my mom's confidence that I would be a mom - even as the years ticked by and ticked by and ticked by - meant so much to me. She said, 'Of course you'll be a mom, and you're going to be a wonderful mom.'

"And for her to have that confidence and faith was so meaningful to me. It got me through some really hard times."
