A submitter to the Ministry for Regulation's Red Tape Tipline has complained more people are needing to go through the legal process of probate, as the threshold hasn't kept up with inflation.
The maximum value for distributing an estate without probate is 15 thousand dollars - if adjusted it would be about 22 thousand.
Regulation Minister David Seymour says it's an easy fix and has written to Minister Paul Goldsmith who's responsible for regulation.
More than 750 submissions have been made to the Red Tape Tipline since November.
