The Hawke's Bay men's NPC rugby team can now claim to be "the Bay"

The Hawke's Bay men's NPC rugby team can now claim to be "the Bay"

The Battle of the Bay went right down to the wire in Tauranga, tied at 14-all at the break and 21-all at the end of regulation time.

Then Lincoln McClutchie kicked the winning drop goal for the Magpies in golden point extra time.

Final score Hawke's Bay 24, Bay of Plenty 21.

Earlier, the Bay of Plenty Volcanix won their bottom-of-the-ladder local derby in the women's Farah Palmer Cup Premiership, thrashing the visiting Hawke's Bay Tui 62-17.

Waikato have gone top after edging the Manawatu Cyclones 15-10 in Cambridge.

In the FPC Championship, the Otago Spirit remain perfect, after beating the North Harbour Hibiscus 31-22 in Dunedin.
