Kerry Katona and her boyfriend are planning to donate toys over the festive season

The former Atomic Kitten singer and her partner Paolo Margaglione - who she met on E4's Celebs Go Dating earlier this year - want to give back to "people in need" over around Christmastime.

She wrote in her column for new! magazine: "Paolo and I are planning to buy some toys and deliver them where we can. I'm in a very fortunate situation but it hasn't always been that way.

"[My daughter] DJ and I were listening to Heart Radio recently and they had a little girl on who was really poorly. These things remind you to stay humble."

The AGe-year-old star reflected on her own Christmases as a child when she grew up with "nothing".

She recalled: "I've been on the other side myself - I was in refuges as a kid. I'll never forget getting rehomed. It was Christmas and we had nothing.

"The refuge knocked on the door and donated corned beef and those smelly things for your knicker drawer.

"Helping people in need is a must for me now."

Kerry has daughters Molly, 24, and Lilly-Sue, 22, with first husband Brian McFadden, and Heidi, 18, and Max, 17, with second husband Mark Croft.

She also has 11-year-old daughter DJ, whose father is Kerry's late third husband, George Kay.

And she revealed her kids "hate" one of her big Christmas traditions, which means they are "not allowed to open their presents until I've got a bin bag in my head".

She explained: "Otherwise, I've got to walk around and pick all the wrapping paper up - it just annoys me and everything gets lost.

"So before I've even seen what they've got, the wrapping paper is in the bin bag.

"One of the kids even did a drawing of me once with a bin bag on Christmas morning. It looked like I was throwing their presents in the bin - I wasn't!"
