A man who crashed into a police car while fleeing from officers investigating an assault on Auckland's Ponsonby Rd has been arrested

A witness says they heard "a loud bang" and then a car fled from the underground carpark of the Quest Ponsonby hotel near Western Park this afternoon.

On crashing into the police car, the driver fled on foot.

No police staff were injured, but there is some damage to their vehicle.

The man was arrested shortly afterwards at a nearby address.
