Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared a brief Easter truce in the war with Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared a brief Easter truce in the war with Ukraine

Putin says he has ordered his forces to stop fighting for 30 hours - with the truce lasting until Monday.

Ukraine's Foreign Minister says there's a long history of Putin's statements not matching his actions and says Russia has still not agreed to a U.S proposal for a 30 day ceasefire - which Ukraine has accepted.

The announcement of an Easter truce comes after the U.S threatened to pass on peace negotiations if no progress on a ceasefire was made.
