Rashida Jones knew she would "never be good enough" to become a music star

The 48-year-old actress is the daughter of actress Peggy Lipton and legendary record producer Quincy Jones - but Rashida has no desire to follow in her dad's footsteps

The Hollywood star said on the 'SmartLess' podcast: "My dad's a musical genius. That's like, the last thing I want to do, is try my hand at that.

"But I love it. Like, I have a deep ache for music and I just don't ever feel like I'm good enough to do it. Like I'll never be good enough to do it, so I just don't."

Rashida has a huge love of music and has even sang backing vocals for Maroon 5.

However, the actress has insisted that she's happy to focus her attention on the film and TV industry.

She said: "I love it so much and I kind of like, sing for fun.

"I've written for fun, and I've sung back-up on some albums and things like that ... I can write [music], my reading is limited."

Earlier this year, Rashida revealed that her dad has always been "extremely protective" of her.

The actress also insisted that she never really aspired to become famous.

Rashida told InStyle magazine: "I had parents who were in the public eye, but they were extremely protective of us. Fame wasn't that much a part of my reality."

Rashida studied at Harvard University before finding fame and success in the TV industry.

The actress ultimately leaned on her dad for some career advice.

The 'Parks and Recreation' star shared: "My dad said to me, when I graduated from college, 'You're gonna go wait in line with 70,000 other people for a job? That doesn't seem really that practical.'"
