A 36-year-old man has been arrested in the Bay of Plenty - after a chase this morning involving an armed driver

Police tracked a ute from Sabana Place to central Tauranga - after reports about 8am a person had been shot at.

Pursuit was abandoned as the driving deteriorated, and when the vehicle's tyres were spiked on The Strand, police say the driver exited with a firearm.

Police used non-lethal sponge rounds and a taser, before taking a man into custody.
