Members of the armed forces played a distinct role in Prince Philip's funeral..

Hundreds of personnel were present outside St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.

Grenadier Guardsmen carried the Duke of Edinburgh's coffin into a specially-created Land Rover.

Military bands played throughout the service, and The Last Post was sounded by the Buglers of the Royal Marines.

The sounding of Action Stations - a signal that all hands should be ready for battle - followed.

Former royal Navy officer Sir James Nugent says it showed how important the armed forces were in Philip's life.

He says he served in battleships and destroyers and also was a commanding officer in the HMS Magpie submarine.
