Emma Twigg knows as much as anyone the value of living in the moment at an Olympics

Emma Twigg knows as much as anyone the value of living in the moment at an Olympics

The 34-year-old contests the final of the women's single sculls in Tokyo from 12.33pm.

She came fourth at London in 2012 and Rio in 2016 and sixth at Beijing in 2008.

Twigg says she's learnt lessons from previous Games to enjoy the race - if that's possible over a gruelling 2000 metres - and trusting herself.

New Zealand sporting history beckons elsewhere too, at Tokyo's Sea Forest Waterway.

Rowing pair Olympic champions Grace Prendergast and Kerri Gowler rejoin the eight to try to earn the country a maiden gold in that discipline, too - no Kiwi rowers have secured two medals at a Games.

The men's eight are seeking to emulate their 1972 forebears.
