A 47-year-old woman has been sent to prison for repeatedly stabbing a Christchurch taxi driver

A 47-year-old woman has been sent to prison for repeatedly stabbing a Christchurch taxi driver

Rangimaria Lisa Sellars had been out of prison less than a month, when she attacked the Afghan refugee - last October.

She told the driver she couldn't pay the fare - then stabbed him several times with a knife.

    He needed surgery.

At Manukau District Court today, Judge Sanjay Patel noted Sellars appears institutionalised - and had previously committed crimes to return to custody.

He's sentenced her to three years four months in jail.
