A belief the economic savings from Transmission Gully come from people taking quicker, more efficient trips

A new report from Infrastructure New Zealand shows the lower North Island road has boosted the local economy by 63 million dollars.
It finds commuters are saving 9 minutes of travel time on average on the highway - and there have been no road deaths since it opened in 2022.
Infometrics Chief Economist Brad Olsen says just on travel time, 3.8 million hours have been saved in 2024.
He says there's less congestion so people are having a faster and safer journey.
