Peter Wright has won his first darts world championship, beating world No.1 Michael van Gerwen seven-three in the final at London's Alexandra Palace

Peter Wright has won his first darts world championship, beating world No.1 Michael van Gerwen seven-three in the final at London's Alexandra Palace

The Scot lost to van Gerwen in the 2014 final, but denied the Dutchman a fourth global crown.

He claimed the 984-thousand dollar winner's cheque with a double 10 to finish.

Wright won three successive sets to leave van Gerwen floundering at the end.
