A new zero tolerance policy is in place, and motorists who travel just a kilometre over the speed limit can be fined.
Previously this hard stance was only seen on public holidays.
Taxpayers' Union Spokesperson Jordan Williams says it's a revenue-grab - and effectively a tax.
He says they're putting every ounce of pressure on Police Minister Stuart Nash to override it and give motorists a break.
