Three complaints have been laid with the Commerce Commission about price gouging by the national carrier, with fares up to six times their February price.

Other airlines have been priced out of the market with social distancing requirements.

Aviation commentator Irene King says there's a cooperation agreement between Air New Zealand and Qantas which will see Jetstar services eventually resume.

She says one of the clauses in the agreement is that Jetstar must continue to provide competitive alternative services in New Zealand.
