Canterbury's desperately trying to avoid the Mitre10 Cup Premiership wooden spoon

Canterbury's desperately trying to avoid the Mitre10 Cup Premiership wooden spoon

The red and blacks have rallied from 19-5 down to be 24-19 in front of competition leaders Auckland in the second half of their match in Christchurch.

The hosts must win to avoid relegation to the Championship in 2021.

Earlier, Bay of Plenty clinched their semi-final spot with a 37-33 win over North Harbour in Tauranga and will play Tasman next weekend.

Auckland will square off against Waikato.

In the second-tier championship, Hawke's Bay will square off against Taranaki in the semis while Otago will face Northland.
