Armed police are on the hunt ... after a man's been injured in a firearms-related event in the upper South Island town of Motueka

They're looking for a man last seen driving from the Fry Street area - after police were called about 1pm.

Nelson Bays area commander Inspector Paul Borrell says police believe those involved may know each other.

The injured man has been flown to Nelson hospital.
