A rest home's neglect left an elderly woman suffering through her final days

A rest home's neglect left an elderly woman suffering through her final days

She was admitted to Bupa Care Services New Zealand in 2018, while waiting for a care plan for arm fractures.

But the woman was taken to hospital in severe pain after just eight days - and died of sepsis.

The Deputy Health and Disability Commissioner says the rest home breached the consumer rights code.

Staff didn't give the woman proper care, carry out medical assessments or offer adequate pain relief.

The report recommends the rest home undergo an audit, better educate staff and apologise to the victim's family.
