Frustration from Queenstown's mayor -- over an Auckland couple who flouted covid rules to travel to Wanaka

Frustration from Queenstown's mayor -- over an Auckland couple who flouted covid rules to travel to Wanaka

Police say the couple crossed the alert level 4 border using their essential-worker exemptions, drove to Hamilton Airport and flew to their holiday home in Wanaka this weekend.

The couple left Auckland on Friday, were located in Wanaka on Saturday afternoon, and will be appearing in court this week.

Mayor Jim Boult says everyone is feeling for Auckland, and the incident is "extremely disappointing".

He says people who flout the rules endanger the entire community and livelihoods.
