There's been a tragic end to last week's serious crash near Matamata

A 13-year-old girl has died, a week after she and four other children were seriously injured, after being flung from their vehicle in a late night crash near the Waikato town last Monday.

Police say they were travelling in a vehicle stolen from Hamilton some hours earlier, and been used in the ram raid of a vape shop in the Matamata township.

Students Against Drink Driving National Manager Donna Govorko says it's sad to see such a young life cut short.

She says a lot of people do just make snap decisions and they don't actually realise the seriousness that a car can cause when they crash.

Seventeen people have died between Christmas Eve and this morning -- the highest summer road toll in five years.
